PPG Names Country Soil as 2027 Color of the Year

This warm, saturated hue blends beige, taupe and gray with earthy undertones, drawing inspiration from clay-rich earth and weathered stone.

PPG announced Country Soil (PPG15-30) as its 2027 Color of the Year. A warm, saturated hue that blends beige, taupe, and gray, Country Soil draws inspiration from the natural world, evoking clay-rich earth and weathered stone.

The color sits at the center of PPG’s 2027 global color theme, Foundations, which includes three distinct palettes: Solid Ground, Quiet Zone, and Life Shared.

For 2027, the forecast marks a notable shift from the bright, expressive hues of 2026 toward more muted palettes, offering customers guidance tailored to a wide range of design preferences.

Country Soil’s depth and versatility make it adaptable to a variety of interior styles. It can be used as an accent color or applied throughout an entire room, including walls, trim, and ceiling for a more immersive effect.

“Country Soil is designed for slowing down,” said Irina Hanhisalo, PPG color category lead, EMEA, Architectural Coatings. “For 2027, we have selected a grounding color that acts as a solid foundation for any project. Inspired by the warm, natural hues of clay, it provides a base layer with a soft, neutral tone. Rather than treating wall color as a decorative surface layer, Country Soil creates a space to settle and recharge.”
